MEGT Field Trip – Restaurant 2010

MEGT Field Trip - Restaurant 2010
The Restaurant 2010 held in the Hall of Industries at Moore Park was a fantastic experience to MEGT Institute Sydney Campus Hospitality’ students who attended to the event this past Monday and Tuesday (25/10 and 26/10).
Appearances of well known hospitality experts such as George Calombaris (Master Chef), Matt Moran(Aria), Adriano Zumbo (Master Chef), Barista Scottie Callaghan (World Barista Champion Finalist)to name a few.
Students enjoyed being in an environment that emulated their studies. Every exhibitor happily explained their products and services and some students were treated to the free samples available, strategically manoeuvring within the crowd to maximize the tastings, very clever.
This event was an opportunity for MEGT staff to talk to industry representatives and lead by example showing students how to communicate effectively within the hospitality industry members.
There were new innovative ideas such as the iPad menu ordering system, an exciting modern version in menu selling using current technology. Innovative POS systems integrating technologies, new beverage products, meat, goat, fish roe, cheeses and wines to name only a few.
Overall a good experience for those who have never attended a trade show, we are sure that the students took something away from the event, not just a free “samples”.

Safety Week 2010 – Day 4

Lack of sleep
Most people experience night when they feel as though they can’t sleep properly or simply don’t get enough sleep – this is not at all unusual and is not a serious issue if it only happens occasionally.
However, ongoing lack of sleep is a serious issue which can result in many negative health effects that you simply may not be aware of and so continues to prioritise other things over a good nights’ sleep.
Some of the short term effects of lack of sleep may include things like:
- Feelings of fatigue
- Lack of concentration
- Irritability
- Impaired judgement
- Increased accident rate at work or in vehicles
The effects of ongoing lack of sleep can have extremely serious harmful effects and may significantly increase the risk of:
- Weight gain / obesity
- Type 2 diabetes
- Heart disease
- Digestive problems
- Mental illness
- Violent behaviour
- Reduced immunity and increased infection rate
It is imperative that you get enough quality sleep. Eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of exercise, reducing your intake of stimulants such as caffeine and simply allowing enough time to sleep will go a long way!!!
You should consult your doctor if you have trouble sleeping on an ongoing basis.

Sustainability Lane
SUSTAINABILITY LANE AT LANE COVE by MERCEDES BAUTISTA ARAGON –
Member of the MEGT Institute Sydney Campus’s Student Council.
This environment friendly fair was held the 10th of October at Longueville Rd and Lane Cove Rd. where hundreds of companies, shops, people and volunteers from Lane Cove and other suburbs around Sydney were part of this amazing event sponsored by the Lane Cove Council.
Being part of this event as volunteer was a great experience and definitely increased my knowledge about recycling, which I realized just then how important is to know what is recycable and what’s not.
Throughout the day I was responsible to help people by providing recycling tips and by raising awareness on recycling matters.
Despite the thought of how important is to recycle, I felt challenged by people’s attitude. Unfortunately not everyone is willing to give it a go to recycling and still cannot see how our attitude now can affect the world we live and the future of the next generations.
By the end of my shift, felling tired yet very happy to collaborate with our environment.
Here some tips to recycle, giving by the Lane council. You can help too!!!!
