1000 Cranes for Japan
Following the Tsunami and Earthquake that hit Japan on 11th March 2011 the MEGT Institute Advanced Diploma and Diploma of Children Services student’s organised the event 1000 Cranes for Japan.
1000 Cranes for Japan was an initiative which aimed to raise awareness for this unfortunate natural disaster and its damage to the people affected by it.
The Children Services students who were nurturing this idea since the Tsunami announced a request to involve all fellow students and staff members in their project of making 1000 cranes and donating them to an organisation which would send them to Japan.
On Tuesday 10th May 2011 and Wednesday 11th May 2011, the Children Services students accompanied and supported by their trainer Barbara Galati visited every class and appealed to each fellow student and their respective trainers for their participation in making Origami Cranes and therefore working together to achieve their goal of 1000 cranes by the end of May 2011.
An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical creatures and is said to live for a thousand years.
Our wish is that everyone affected by the tsunami and earthquake and their loved ones are given the appropriate support and specially to tell them that “our thoughts are with each one of them”.
It was fantastic to see the MEGT Institute students and staff member’s enthusiasm and willingness to help.
As an organisation we support social and community engagement and we are extremely proud of the sense of commitment and maturity demonstrated by our students and staff members.
On behalf of everybody who has contributed and still contributes, a big THANK YOU for your support and belief for this great cause!
We are happy to announce that we have surpassed our goal and as of today 17th May 2011 we have reached 1500 Origami Cranes!
Well done MEGT Team!
