Children Services Music class

At the end of Stage 1 in the Diploma of Children’s Services (early childhood education & care) students study the unit ‘Use music to enhance children’s experiences and development’ .
Part of the assessment task for this unit is to make a music resource kit for students to use with the young children during their Diploma practicum. The purpose of creating a music resource kit is to develop an understanding of the music concepts of beat, tempo, rhythm, pitch & dynamics through singing, dancing, playing percussion instruments and listening to music.
During our music class we make drums with various sized terracotta clays pots & eight layers of brown papier-mâché. These drums create a very rich sound to use to accompany songs, music, dances & other instruments.
Here are some fabulous examples of the beautiful resources the Diploma students made in Term 1 2011 to share with the children and enhance their development & their music experiences. The students make other resources such as movement flash card, tapping sticks, wrist bells, maracas, ribbon sticks which are presented in a aesthetically pleasing container.
A great resource to share the universal language of music!
