Orientation Session

On July 4th 2011, the MEGT Institute team welcomed the new intake to the Term 3 “O” Week Program
consisted of three days being:
Monday: Orientation Session
Tuesday and Wednesday: Employable skills courses such as RSA, RGC, First Aid and Anaphylaxis

Day one (Monday) was planned to provide the new students with a feel of the “campus way of life” through an interactive Orientation Session.
The day started early where they received a warm welcome from Tony Patterson – Campus Manager followed by a “meet and greet”
introduction to each member of the MEGT administrative, academic and marketing team.
Following the staff members introduction, the new students were able to get to know a bit more about the MEGT Student Council.
Represented by Patricia Nathan, they were talked through the Student Council vision, mission and values.

Upon returning from the morning break, the students were invited to play an ice breaker where they had to introduce themselves
and perform timed tasks such as going to reception and bringing the Campus Manager to the room to recite a funny poem together!

Services available for students, campus facilities and Policies and Procedures sessions were delivered throughout the day by Luci Vicente – Students Services Officer.
After a well deserved lunch break, the students were divided into two teams and surprised by the announcement of a fun team building “Policies and Procedures Quiz Session” where the winner team would be presented by a mystery prize.
The quiz session was interactive and educational; the students demonstrated commitment and team work to answer the questions and both teams had close results but unfortunately only one could be the winner of a $20 academic voucher.
To conclude the Orientation Session, the students were then divided into two faculty groups:

The Business & Hospitality group; represented by the Academic Program Coordinator Marike Janavicus and the Children Services group; represented by the Work Placement Coordinator Carmel Williams.
During the academic breakdown the students were able to know a bit more about their course of choice and each student received a complimentary Starter Pack consisting of one pencil case, one MEGT personalised hoddie which will definitely be very useful during Sydney’s chilli winter!

World Chef Showcase – 2010

Promoting industry engagement at its best and encouraging our students to participate on events that portrait the real deal when it comes to Hospitality and Customer Services, MEGT Institute Sydney Campus has contributed to the World Chef Showcase 2010 – Star City by advertising this great event as an “unmissable” opportunity not only for our Hospitality students but for all faculties.
Paulo Cardoso – Certificate III in Tourism student was one of the students who worked on that weekend.
Having a background in Hospitality and coming from a restaurant owner’s family back in Brazil, Paulo thought this opportunity was a must for his future career as a Chef.
Working in “Sean’s Kitchen” restaurant, Paulo had an amazing time as he had never experienced such busy environment where more than 15 chefs working in 3 kitchens were cooking and presenting meals of the highest standard. Despite working as a volunteer, Paulo was able to be a part of their routine and has learned so many new skills.
Paulo is very pleased and grateful of having the chance to participate in such event.”

MEGT Field Trip – Restaurant 2010

MEGT Field Trip - Restaurant 2010
The Restaurant 2010 held in the Hall of Industries at Moore Park was a fantastic experience to MEGT Institute Sydney Campus Hospitality’ students who attended to the event this past Monday and Tuesday (25/10 and 26/10).
Appearances of well known hospitality experts such as George Calombaris (Master Chef), Matt Moran(Aria), Adriano Zumbo (Master Chef), Barista Scottie Callaghan (World Barista Champion Finalist)to name a few.
Students enjoyed being in an environment that emulated their studies. Every exhibitor happily explained their products and services and some students were treated to the free samples available, strategically manoeuvring within the crowd to maximize the tastings, very clever.
This event was an opportunity for MEGT staff to talk to industry representatives and lead by example showing students how to communicate effectively within the hospitality industry members.
There were new innovative ideas such as the iPad menu ordering system, an exciting modern version in menu selling using current technology. Innovative POS systems integrating technologies, new beverage products, meat, goat, fish roe, cheeses and wines to name only a few.
Overall a good experience for those who have never attended a trade show, we are sure that the students took something away from the event, not just a free “samples”.

MEGT Institute – RSPCA cup cake day
What a great way to begin the week! MEGT Institute Sydney Campus hosted a fundraising day event for RSPCA on Monday 16/08/2010.
RSPCA Cup Cake Day was organised by the Advanced Diploma in Children Services Monday+Tuesday class along with the Student Council.
Students and staff members contributed to the success of this event by donating online and baking delicious cup cakes to be exchanged for donations! Certainly not all participants had the skills to bake these delicious treats but the problem was fast solved by Harris Farms and Woollies great selection of sweeties.
Thanks to you, we were able to fundraise $600.00 which will be forwarded to the RSPCA and their great work in looking after the welfare of abandoned and mistreated animals around the world.
Big thanks to MEGT for supporting this great fundraising event.
Well done to all!
