MEGT Institute visit Sydney Children’s Hospital

Keira from MEGT Marketing, Jenny from the Children’s Hospital and Carmel from MEGT Children’s Services

MEGT Institute staff members Carmel and Keira visited Sydney’s Children’s Hospital on Tuesday to give gifts to the children for Christmas. Every Christmas is an extremely hard time for families in hospital and often they don’t have the money to provide gifts for their children. MEGT Institute initiated asking staff members to donate to this worthy cause by purchasing a gift for a child at the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

Keira from MEGT Marketing, Jenny from the Children’s Hospital and Carmel from MEGT Children’s Services

MEGT Institute’s initiative was very well received by staff members with a full load of toys being delivered to the Hospital. Carmel and Keira met with Jenny the Community Services Manager for the Sydney Children’s Hospital who graciously accepted our gifts for all the sick children. It was an eye opening experience and a project MEGT Institute hopes to continue in the future. If you’d like to give a gift to the children it is not too late, contact the hospital directly to organise a time to drop off your gifts. Every toy counts and a little gift can make a world of difference to the children and their families!

Congratulations Maria on your paid internship in a child care centre

    Maria Maryaretha
from Indonesia,  successfully completed her Diploma of Children’s Services at MEGT Institute (Sydney Campus) in February 2010. Since then Maria has had her OTV (Occupational Training Visa) approved and accepted and is now currently employed full time at the Montessori Academy Childcare Centre as a childcare worker.

Why did you decide to study in Australia?
I love Australia being a cultural country with so many open minded people with a lot of freedom. I am very grateful to be living in such an accepting country with so many opportunities.

How did you hear about MEGT Institute?
I heard from friends that studied at MEGT Melbourne that had such great ideas and specifically I loved that it was a specialist Child care college. Not many places had such a great reputation and also offered children’s services.

What was the best part of your course?
The best part of the course was the interaction with other students. I had the best trainers that were so experienced and had so much knowledge about the industry.

What is the best part of your job?
Interacting with the children is the best part of my job. I love teaching the children things and seeing them start to learn on their own it makes you feel confident you are making a difference and being successful in your industry. I eventually want to open up my own child care centre in Indonesia and bring back all the skills I learnt from MEGT Institute.

What did you learn at MEGT Institute?
MEGT was the classroom environment, the work placement really helps you to understand the theory I learnt in class. The different nationalities in the course made it really fun and helped me improve my English. MEGT assisted me in achieving my goals as they were helpful throughout the process and structured everything. I have already recommended MEGT Institute after my great experience there. All the lessons and theories were so useful and helped me find a full time job, it got me exactly to where I want be. The teachers were fantastic and I was continually updated on regulations and I am extremely confident in knowing that I am a good teacher after all my studies at MEGT Institute.

    Jobs created by MEGT

The MEGT Group Training Greenhouse project was started over a year ago as an initiative to create employment for apprentices and trainees.

MEGT Group Training has purchased 6 blocks of land at the Selandra Rise Estate in City of Casey, Victoria, through Stockland and has partnered with Stocklands and Porter Davis homes to create those employment opportunities.

The houses are being built in line with best practice environmentally appropriate initiatives.

The houses are already under construction and 15 apprentices and trainees have been placed with a wide variety of organisations involved in building a new community.

    Focus Group Report

Representing the MEGT Institute and the Student Council, Stephanie Jahns and Patricia Nathan attended to the Focus Group Forum organised by the Australian Education International (AEI) and the New South Wales branch of ISANA at Sydney University on Wednesday 10th August 2011.

Aiming to identify current problems and to discuss ways to improve the study experience for international students in Australia, the Focus Group was held in English and made of 7 international students from countries like Italy, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Germany and Colombia, studying higher education, TAFE and VET.

Three interviewers who were part of the Education Industry conducted the brain storming session.
Questions were related to social life, current studies, jobs and future plans, such as:

    1. What are you studying in Australia?
    2. Why did you choose Sydney? Considering that it is one of the most expensive cities in the world.
    3. How do you socialise?
    4. What did you hear about Australians before arriving in Australia?
    5. How easy / difficult was it for you to adapt?
    6. Are you happy with your studies?
    7. What would you like to change regarding your current studies?
    8. Did everything meet your expectations?
    9. Do you find it easy / difficult to find a job related to your studies?
    10. What are your plans regarding further studies / jobs?

The session lasted for approx 2 hours and all participants were given the opportunity to express their opinion. It was a relaxed atmosphere and we all hope that our input as international students will contribute to positive changes in the industry.

    City2Surf 2011

Another successful event took place in Sydney last Sunday 14/8/11.

The City2Surf 2011 counted with the participation of 85.000 supporters who despite the “partly cloudy with showers” forecast ran, jogged and walked for their preferred charity organisation.

There were many funny characters, corporate teams and lots of music all the way from the City to Bondi Beach, making the 14km track not as difficult as it appeared to be!

Running (walking) for OzHarvest, seven of MEGT staff members and students did a fantastic job finishing the race and keeping their times under 2 hours, except from Luci and Adrian who were busy taking lots of photos and enjoying the beautiful view of Sydney’s eastern beaches and real estate.

    2011 results:
    Marian Lojek – 1:14:25

    Scott Parsonson – 1:23:27

    Robert Parsonson – 1:26:51

    Joel Patterson – 1:27:46

    Amanda Patterson – 1:42:10

    Luci Vicente – 2:33:48

    Adrian Warren – 2:33:49

Well done to all and we hope to continue to support City2Surf and OzHarvest next year!

MEGT Institute Sydney Campus Graduation 2011

Despite the heavy rain on the evening of 21stJuly 2011, the MEGT Team welcomed to our yearly Graduation a great turn up of guests who came together to celebrate our graduates.

The MEGT Institute Sydney Campus has been the proud host of the event since 2005 and has worked along side the Group Training and the Workplace Based Delivery Teams to offer memorable nights every year.

On behalf of the MEGT Team, we would like to congratulate all graduates for their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence throughout training.

A special mention to family members and friends who joined our Team in this celebration, it was indeed a beautiful evening filled with a sense of achievement.

Here are some appreciation words from the Academic, Administrative and Marketing Teams:

Vivienne Medway – Program Course Coordinator speaks on behalf of the entire Children Services academic and administrative teams:

“Congratulations to all of our students at graduation. It was great to see you all there with family and friends on a very wet and rainy night! Such a wonderful occasion to share your success and excitement in achieving your goals. I would like to acknowledge the challenges and diversity you have faced to gain your qualification. Well done and a very proud time for everyone! Now you need to go and make a difference to a child’s life. Share your passion, knowledge and skills with the children, their families and fellow staff in child care services. Enjoy your new journey and keep learning”

Marike Janavicius – Program Course Coordinator speaks on behalf of the entire Business and Hospitality academic and administrative teams:

“We were delighted to see such good attendance of graduating students and their families for the graduation. The evening began with drinks and canapés at the bar, with the opportunity for graduating students from the Institute, group training and the ACC to mingle and begin their networking with each other. It was a pleasure to be part of the moment and to enjoy their success. All graduates were excited to receive their certificates and to continue their careers with confidence and high expectations for the future. We are hoping that all the students will become part of MEGT’s Alumni for further networking opportunities.”
